Ranked the number one agricultural institute in Europe and number two in the world, INRA carries out mission-oriented research for better food and nutrition, preservation of the environment and competitive, sustainable agricultural practices. Within the INRA research unit "Soil, Agro- and hydrosystem, Spatialisation", located at Rennes in western France, the Environmental Systems Analysis (ESA) group is dedicated to the evaluation of the environmental impacts of agricultural production systems. With respect to this project INRA were responsible for the French national consultation exercise and various on-farm case studies.
