Various lab and field studies have been undertaken to investigate the effectiveness of Fucus spiralis as a biostimulant. In a study investigated the impact of the extract applied on radish plants subjected to varying levels of drought stress. It demonstrated a significant increase in the fresh weight over the control. Under stress the extract decreased proline content of radish leaves and caused an increase of the alkaline phosphatase and urease activity in the soil. The treatment led to decreased sugar content and total phenolics levels in the crop. A study investigated the key physiological and biochemical parameters of Faba bean plants treated with the extract during both drought and recovery phases. The extract was found to positively affect plant biomass under drought stress conditions. Extract application resulted in a higher concentration of soluble sugars in treated plants in comparison to the control plants.
