Agri-environmental systems are extremely complex, being made up a vast array of interacting operations, pollutant stores and pathways, ecological factors, human demands and aesthetic issues. Consequently, the production and use of agri-environmental modelling systems is key to the understanding of these systems, and the development of policies and management strategies designed to meet the range of demands placed on the sector.

AERU has been at the forefront of agri-environmental modelling work for more than a decade, and has both developed its own and use pre-existing systems to advance our understanding of a wide range of issues, including nutrient and pesticide pollution of surface and ground waters, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change mitigation, and whole farm sustainability.

Examples of the work we’ve done can be found on the following pages, whilst others can be found in our Projects section.
