Pollutant fate

The agriculture and horticulture industries are particularly susceptible to the release of a wide range of pollutants into the environment, as their operation is inextricably linked to that environment. The use of nutrients and pesticides can result in the contamination of surface and ground waters, and the storage of livestock manures can release greenhouse gasses in to the atmosphere. These and many other activities must therefore be carried out in such a way as to minimise any negative impacts.
