OSCAR software: 09-09-2013 Installation Instructions Note: Uninstall any previous installations of OSCAR. The software is installed locally on a PC using a Microsoft installer file (MSI file). Follow the instructions below to install the software. The simple instructions are for users with administration access, the advanced is for users that do not have administration access and/or for Windows 7 users with more than one user profile on the PC. Simple: 1. Downloaded the MSI file. 2. Run it (double click on it) 3. Follow the on-screen instructions Advanced: 1. Downloaded the MSI file. 2. Note: On some versions of Windows (e.g. Windows 7) you may need administrator rights to be able to install the software. If you do not have administrator access, then you may need to contact your IT department to install the software. If you have administrator access, then you can follow the simple instructions above. 3. If there are multiple user profiles on the PC, then you may need to ensure that the software is installed for all users (to ensure if operates correctly). On Windows 7, use the following command to do this: Type in the following command line in the run box (Search programs and files box) on the Start menu and press return: msiexec /i C:\OSCAR_DB1_119.msi ALLUSERS=1 (Note: in the example above the msi file is located directly on the C drive, if it is in another drive and/or folder, the full path will need to be specified) This should install the software ‘per machine’ and thus all users should have access to it. The installation will place an 'OSCAR (Beta Version)' icon on your desktop and an item your start menu. To start the software double-click on the 'OSCAR (Beta Version)' icon on the desktop or select it from the start menu.
