Judy's discipline interests are derived from an interest in architecture as a visual manifestation of social and economic determinants, both at the time of origination and subject to the passages of time. This includes an interest in the usership and re-usership of buildings as well as related alterations to the fabric of the original structures.

Judy has also been involved in the educational practice in higher education with a specialisation in the art and design curriculum. She has developed a knowledge of strategy and operations at subject and institutional level through her longstanding work with the Quality Assurance Agency as a Specialist Subject Reviewer and Institutional Auditor.

She is particularly interested in Continuing Professional Development in relation to art and design practitioners. As the Director of the Artists Mean Business projects she has been at the sharp end of designing and providing professional support for post-graduate practitioners. She has written about teaching and learning approaches in relation to professional development in art and design.

Judy is Project Director of the Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning ADEPTT (Art and Design: Enabling Part Time Tutors) a £250k national HEFCE project part of the Teaching Quality Enhancement initiative. Conference papers and workshops have been given in relation to this project.
