The University of Hertfordshire Charitable Trust is an unincorporated charitable trust, constituted under the Trust Deed dated 28 May 1986.  In 1993 a Deed was made varying the Declaration of Trust to recognise the provisions of the Education Reform Act 1988 and the Further and Higher Education Act 1992.  The Trust is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales and the Charity Registration number is 294730.

The University of Hertfordshire Higher Education Corporation is the sole Trustee.  The Trustee meets at least once annually to discharge the business of the Trust by agreeing its broad strategy and areas of activity, including consideration of grant making, investment, reserves, risk management policies, and performance.  With effect from 1 April 2011, the Trustee delegated limited powers to act on its behalf to the Charitable Trust Committee, a sub-committee of the Trustee.

The Trustee has delegated authority to this committee to make investments, approve grants and monitor the management of funds.  The Committee normally meets at least three times during the year and makes reports and recommendations to the Trustee.   The day-to-day running of the Trust is delegated to honorary officers of the Trust.
