Energy Use at the University of Hertfordshire

This summary looks at energy management for the years 02/03 and 03/04, giving a comparison between energy use at Hertford and Watford campuses to the new de Havilland campus.

Figure 1 illustrates the cost of energy for the academic year 2002/03 and 2003/04 which showed a decrease of 11% at UH satellite sites. However there was an increase of 3.1% in cost on College Lane campus and an increase of 51% for the new de Havilland campus compared with the previous year at Watford and Hertford campuses. The main reason for this s ignificant increase in the cost of energy was attributed to the new residential accommodation at de Havilland campus where all bedrooms are fitted with electric heaters. For the academic year 2003/04 a total of 1.3 million pounds was spent on energy which is an increase of 14% from the previous year.

Overall the University used 47 million kWh of energy which is the equivalent to 2,100 kWh per person.
