Sustainable Buildings

constructionThe University of Hertfordshire is investing in a new building programme to update its campuses and provide new state of the art facilities.

New buildings and renovations consider a number of sustainability factors and are constructed using the Building Research Establishments Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM). Specifications take into account a wide range of impacts in the design, construction and operation of new buildings. This includes:

  • Chill beams (Termodeck)

  • Use of FSC timber
  • Energy efficient heating and lighting systems
  • Minimal use of refrigerants
  • Water saving devices and systems
  • Promoting alternative transport
