Waste Awareness Day, March 2009
Members of staff from Cawleys joined the University's student EcoReps in raising awareness of the importance of recycling. Questions were answered and further information given. If you would like to find out more about recycling at the University click here or email.
Practical Conservation Work at Bayfordbury, February and March 2009
Student EcoReps and other student volunteers got involved in practical conservation work at Bayfordbury. They got stuck in in the snow and the sunshine and were involved in coppicing.
Fairtrade Fortnight, 23rd February - 8th March 2009

During Fairtrade Fortnight 2009, various events took place to raise awareness of the importance of supporting Fairtrade. Events included Fairtrade Wine Tasting, Fairtrade Chocolate Tasting, a Fairtrade Presentation and a food promotion as part of the Fairtrade Foundation's Go Bananas campaign.
Local Wine Tasting Event, December 08
Twenty five staff and students attended a local wine tasting event on Tuesday 9th December. Great fun was had by all as they sampled wines from across the region. Some of the wines on offer included:
  • King Coel, an East Anglian red from Carter's Vineyards
  • St Helena white from Carter's Vineyards
  • Celebration 2006 white from Warden Abbey Vineyard in Bedfordshire

    EcoReps Hold Regular Stands, December 08
    Your EcoReps are holding regular stands to answer your queries on how you can help to make UH a more sustainable place to live, work and study. You'll find them at the LRCs on College Lane, de Havilland and St Albans, Cafe Taste on College Lane and the Refectory on de Havilland. They will also be holding various other events.     Education have Binned the Bin, November 2008

    In November, the School of Education binned the bin from under office desks and improved the recycling system by increasing the number of mixed recyclables and paper bins and ensuring that all landfill bins are located adjacent to recycling bins. The recycling revolution was brought about as staff realised that under the new recycling scheme, the vast majority of items can be recycled, and therefore there was little need to keep waste bins under every desk.

    UH Recycling Rate More Than Doubles, September 08

    Since the installation of new recycling facilities across UH, recycling rates have soared to more than 70% - that's more than double our recycling rate of three months ago! Staff and students can recycle anything from plastic containers to food waste and from old clothes to used printer cartridges.
