(Also known as: celery looper nucleopolyhedrovirus; Anagrapha falcifera nucleocapsid polyhedrovirus; AfNPV; AfMNPV; celery looper moth NPV) |
The following alerts are based on the data in the tables below. An absence of an alert does not imply the substance has no implications for human health, biodiversity or the environment but just that we do not have the data to form a judgement. These hazard alerts do not take account of usage patterns or exposure, thus do not represent risk.

| | Anagrapha falcifera nucleopolyhedrovirus is produced commercially by nurturing the virus in living caterpillars within a controlled environment. The virus is originally isolated from the alfalfa looper caterpillars and infected with the virus. The virus replicates within the caterpillars, eventually killing them. The infected caterpillars are harvested, and the virus is extracted from their bodies. The extracted virus is then formulated into the end product. |
| | The GHG emissions from the production of virus’s used as biopesticides are typically low. The insect rearing (feed, energy) process typically emits 1.0–2.5 kg CO₂e per kg product; Virus inoculation and harvesting emits approximately 0.5–1.5 kg CO₂e. Purification and formulation adds a further 1.0–2.0 kg CO₂e. Therefore the total production process is expected to emit approximately 2.5–6.0 kg CO₂e per kg virus-formulated product. |
