The commercial production of this virus involves a number of steps. The process begins with the rearing of tobacco cutworm (Spodoptera litura) in a controlled environment. At the larval stage, the cutworms are infected with the granulosis virus. This is typically done by introducing the virus into the larvae's diet. Once ingested, the virus multiplies within the host larvae, eventually leading to their death. The infected larvae are then harvested and the virus is extracted from the dead larvae. This involves homogenising the larvae and purifying the virus particles. |
