GENERAL INFORMATION
Description
A parasitoid that can be used for the biological control of planthopper nymphs
Example pests controlled
Planthoppers of the Flatidae family; Citrus planthopper (Metcalfa pruinosa)
Example applications
Top fruit; Ornamental trees
Efficacy & activity
-
Appearance and life cycle
Small black paraistic wasp. The female also feeds on planthoppers and also parasitises the third, fourth and fifth instar nymphs of the flatid. The egg hatches and the emerging larva becomes visible as a cyst protruding laterally from the host's thorax. Eventuallythe larva emerge and spina coccoon usually on the undeeside of leaves to complete its development.
