|
Mercurous chloride is commercially produced by a controlled reaction between elemental mercury and mercuric chloride. In this process, finely divided mercury is mixed with a solution of mercuric chloride, typically under cool conditions to prevent decomposition. The reaction yields a white precipitate of mercurous chloride, which is then filtered, washed thoroughly to remove any residual mercuric compounds, and dried. |
