Cedarwood oil, as a complex mixture, contains several organic molecules that exist in isomeric forms. Some of the key isomeric constituents include: alpha-cedrene and beta-cedrene which are structural isomers, thujopsene which is sesquiterpene that can exist in stereoisomeric forms, and cedrol, sesquiterpene alcohol that may have stereoisomers depending on its source. |

Commercial production of cedarwood oil involves extracting essential oil from various coniferous trees, primarily species within the Juniperus, Cupressus, and Cedrus genera. The oil is typically obtained through steam distillation of wood, roots, or foliage, often using timber industry by-products like stumps and sawdust. |
|
Data for specific plant oils is scarce. However, from publicly available data the carbon footprint of plant oils has been estimated at between 1.0 and 4.0 kg CO₂e per kg of oil. This depends on the plant oil content, agricultural practices and processing methods used. |
