As a fungicide it inhibits the growth of pathogenic fungi by competing for nutrients and invasion sites. As a biostimulant it supports growth by dissolving macro- and micro-nutrients naturally present in the soil, which the plant then absorbs and transports. The micro-organism optimises microbiological interactions in the rhizosphere. It has also been shown to increase the endogenous level of certain hormones (e.g. auxins and gibberellins) which promotes root development and increases resistance to stress. T. harzianum produces harzianic acid and isoharzianic acid which promote the growth of the plant and bring with it an increase in germination and an increase in the length of stems and roots. |
