Mycosubtilin is produced commercially using specialised fermentation processes involving the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. A high-yielding strain of B. subtilis is selected to enhance mycosubtilin production. The selected strain is cultured in a bioreactor using a nutrient-rich medium and controlled conditions. An advanced method called the overflowing continuous culture (O-CC) process is often used. This involves continuously feeding the culture medium and removing the foam containing mycosubtilin, which allows for continuous production and recovery. The mycosubtilin is extracted from the culture medium and purified using techniques like centrifugation, filtration, and chromatography to achieve the desired purity | |
