Zeatin has been used to promote plant growth for a long time and there is extensive research demonstrating its effectiveness. In one study, wheat seeds pretreated with Zeatins or demonstrated improved plant hormonal content, polyamine gene expression, and tolerance to salinity and drought stress. Similarly, maize seeds treated with a zeatin-type cytokinin biostimulator showed significantly improved salt tolerance by enhancing the antioxidant system and photosynthetic efficiency. Zeatin also increased the growth and biochemical parameters of an oregano crop. |

Cytokinnin. Zeatin stimulates cell division and elongation, which leads to increased plant growth and biomass production. It enhances the uptake and utilisation of nutrients, improving overall plant health and productivity. Zeatin also regulates stress-responsive genes and pathways improving tolerance of drought and salt stress. Studies have also showed that it improves photosynthetic efficiency by increasing chlorophyll content and enhancing the activity of photosynthetic enzymes. |

Zeatin is produced commercially using biotechnological methods. Typically, this involves culturing microbes in a controlled fermentation environment. During fermentation, these microbes are provided with the necessary nutrients and conditions to produce the zeatin. After fermentation, the microbial culture undergoes downstream processing to extract and purify it. This involves several stages, including cell separation, extraction, and purification techniques to isolate the cytokinin from the microbial biomass. Zeatin can also be produced from brown seaweed. |
