Ethanethiol
Last updated: 23/01/2023
(Also known as: ethyl mercaptan; thioethyl alcohol )

SUMMARY
Ethanethiol is a rodenticide which is not approved for use in the UK nor the EU. It is highly soluble in water but not organic solvents. Very limited data is available regarding its environmental fate. It has a low level of toxicity to fish but is more toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Ethanethiol is moderately toxic to humans via the oral route. It is a neurotoxin and irritant.
Data alerts

The following alerts are based on the data in the tables below. An absence of an alert does not imply the substance has no implications for human health, biodiversity or the environment but just that we do not have the data to form a judgement.
