|
Ulva Lactuca is a macro algae extract that has been extensively studied as a biostimulant in both the field and the lab. A study with lettuce treated with the extract showed that it improved the nutritional profile and quality of the produce. Whilst a study with tomatoes demonstrated improved seed germination and enhanced yields under salinity stress conditions. Mung bean seeds soaked in the extract had improved germination compared with untreated seeds. The treated-bean crop also had improved quality parameters including that for chlorophyll, carotenoid, protein and total soluble sugar. Aged tomato seeds grown in a greenhouse germinated better than untreated aged seeds although no difference in growth was noted. A field study with lettuce and mustard plants showed that the extract increased crop biomass and the N&P content. One study concluded that the best results appear to be when the extract is used with root and tuber crops. However, some studies have reported adverse effects on crop appearance. |
