Pesticide usage data needed to calculate the Aggregated Total Applied Toxicity (ATAT)

The ATAT is calculated using pesticide usage data, so this needs to be collated for a country for each year during the baseline period (2011-20) and for each year since then. Ideally, this should based on recorded pesticide usage on farms (for all farms or a sample of farms). Where such data is unavailable at an active ingredient level, pesticide use can be estimated based on, in order of preference:

Sales: Amounts of individual active ingredients sold to end users in the country.
Imports: Amounts of individual active ingredients imported into the country (kg) plus amounts of individual active ingredients produced in the country (kg), minus amounts of individual active ingredients exported from the country (kg), i.e. total for each active ingredient = (imports + production) - exports.
Applied area: Amounts based on applied area (ha) (including agricultural land, treated forests, locust control, vector management, aquaculture, etc.) and application rates (kg/ha), i.e. total for each active ingredient = area applied (ha) x application rate (kg/ha).

The method of pesticide use data collection should be indicated at the time of reporting.

If your data contains amounts of pesticide products or brands used (not active ingredient), you will need to convert the amount of product into amount of active ingredient(s) using the concentration(s) values within those products. This information is available on product labels.
