There are several studies published regarding the effectiveness of the edible green seaweed Caulerpa racemosa as a biostimulant and all report positive effects on yield. A study with sweetcorn treated with an extract of C.racemosa var.cylindracea showed that it will stimulate the growth and enzyme-based antioxidants of sweetcorn seedlings. Foliar application to Blackgram bean plants was shown to promote growth and increase photosynthetic activity. A field experiment was carried out to identify the effect of seed treatment and foliar spraying of C. racemosa extract on a sunflower hybrid. Seeds were soaked in the extract followed by foliar sprays at the vegetative and flowering stages. The results of the study revealed that the extract enhanced various growth attributes (plant height, dry matter production, leaf area index, crop growth rate, seed production & weight) resulting in higher yield. |

Like other seaweed-based biostimulants activity is due to the high concentrations of bioactive compounds naturally present, such as carbohydrates and polyphenols which modulate gene expression and induce metabolic changes in plants that lead to the observed biostimulant effects. |
